There's always a road to run

Mine is not a nine-to-five type of work.  Never has been.

That assertion sounds appealing, and in many ways it is.  But there are many challenges that come with not know what you will be doing or where you'll be doing it when you wake up each morning, and finding ways to train often takes as much creativity as it does dedication.  Those that punch their alarm clock at the same time every morning can find comfort in their routine, while making plans and making rather predictable progress towards their goals.  At times I envy them.  At times, I think it would be great to know that I will have a certain set time every day to swim, bike, run or even just eat and sleep.

But the truth is, no one really has that luxury.  Even to the most organized and least overly-committed among us, life happens.  Whether you find yourself in the middle of the ocean or simply stuck in traffic and trying to get the kids from school to practice and find a few minutes for yourself, nobody knows what their day will hold when they open their eyes in the morning.

But the good news is that there is always a road to run.  It may stretch for miles through open country.  It may be a belt spinning mechanically under your feet as you look out the window at ten feet of snow.  It may be a thirty foot square you repeat lap after lap.  But there is always a road.  All that is left is for you to make the time and keep putting one foot in front of the other.

The training is going good.  Pictures coming soon.
